Yoomedia Moves Cashless Payments Capability

YooMedia plc, the publicly-quoted interactive media and marketing group, has extended its capability in the mobile payments sector with a deal to provide multi-channel cashless payments via IVR (interactive voice response) and web-based solutions for the payment of penalty charge notices.

The company is running a trial in Dun Laoghaire in the Republic of Ireland for Central Parking System (CPS), which works with local authorities throughout the UK and Ireland as an outsourced provider of parking solutions, to trial the IVR system. This will provide motorists with the opportunity to telephone a number on the reverse of their penalty charge notice and authorise payment of the charge via a credit or debit card. The system can also be used to pay multiple penalty charge notices at one time.

Once proven in trial, Central Parking System (CPS) plans to roll-out the YooMedia system to its other local authority customers in the UK and Ireland.

The YooMedia system includes a specially developed payments interface able to link IVR payment transactions directly to CPS's penalty charge notice database to verify charges and reconcile payments received. The web based payments option, to follow shortly, similarly enables motorists to pay penalty charge notices online. The integrated payment processing element of both options will be handled by YooMedia's partner for cashless payment processing in this sector, PayChannel Ltd.

The web system will be available to CPS's Central Parking System's Call Centre operators to enable them to process penalty charge notice payments made by callers. The payments interface can also be accessed by local authorities who already operate an existing penalty charge notice payments application allowing motorists payments received in this way to be reconciled against the CPS database and processed via PayChannel.

"Both the IVR and web-based systems are robust and suited to any scenario where payment by mobile (or landline) phone or online may be desirable," explains Bryn Jenkins, Business Development Director, Services, YooMedia. "We are already talking with other organisations, both in the parking sector and elsewhere, who are interested in the benefits that our cashless payment solutions can provide."
